Dr. Rowan Paul
Rowan V. Paul, M.D., has been a pioneer, thought leader, and expert in the field of regenerative orthopedics since 2009, a time when functional medicine was nascent and newly developing. With extensive initial training in family medicine and sports medicine, he became a full partner at a prestigious orthopedic surgical practice in San Francisco. Although it was a successful 10-year venture, Dr. Paul ultimately realized the limitations of surgery and the immense potential of minimally invasive therapies to promote natural healing, repair, and restoration. His professional focus then turned to the study and mastery of ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Dr. Paul's primary care objective is to help his patients become active again through nonsurgical means. Over the years, he's seen many with chronic pain or chronic injuries who have visited multiple specialists, been given misdiagnosis, received multiple treatments, and / or been told that surgery is their only remaining option for relief. In these cases, Dr. Paul explores every possible measure for a more complete diagnosis and to determine if a multidisciplinary or cell-based approach may eliminate the need for surgery.
His minimally invasive procedures start with a comprehensive protocol that integrates general health, psychosocial factors, and a musculoskeletal exam with diagnostic, dynamic ultrasound stress testing of joints. This detailed process has helped thousands of Dr. Paul's patients obtain an accurate diagnosis, reduce or eliminate pain, restore function, and advance the healing process associated with injuries and disability.
As an Assistant Professor at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine, Dr. Paul has a deep passion for teaching. He is published in the field of Regenerative Medicine and has contributed to multiple textbooks and key scientific papers. As an entrepreneur, he has been an advisory board member of several successful startups. Dr. Paul is passionate about innovating hardware and leveraging technology to streamline healthcare delivery, such as using generative AI and predictive modeling to help choose the optimal treatments for his patients. A goal of his is to refine and develop new regenerative procedures that are significantly less invasive than traditional gold standards.
